Viking Homelands: At Sea (9/2/2018)

Sunday, September 2, 2018
We had to set our clocks ahead one hour, which did not matter too much as today was our day at sea, cruising the Baltic. We still had breakfast at 8:00. I was able to work on editing photos, but then we decided to do the Scavenger Hunt (on our own and not participate in the contest).
The Scavenger Hunt items
We knew where some of the items were located and started right off. We are still practicing taking selfies, so this should be pretty funny...
Deck 1:
The copper-colored sculpture of 6-pointed shapes
in the Viking Living Room
The chunk of glass on a coffee table in front
of a sofa in the Manfredi's Restaurant wine "cellar"
Deck 2:
The model of a Viking ship in the "Museum Corner"
Floor lamp and sofa in Torshavn, the night club
Lighting outside the Star Theater
Took the elevator to Deck 8:
Potted greenery on the Sports Deck
Ship builder's plaque on the Sports Deck
Below the builder's plaque were these two Norwegian coins;
apparently welding coins to the ship is a good-luck practice
and one of the duties of the godmother of this ship,
Trude Drevland, the mayor of Bergen, Norway
A section of the Bayeux Tapestry in the stairwell (a different section was
displayed on every level of the two stairwells in the ship)
The Bayeux Tapestry depicts events of the Norman Conquest of England. The Normans were descendants of Vikings who settled in northern France.
Two important facts about Vikings. 1) Any Nordic person who went to sea was a Viking. Vikings were only those seafarers who took off to trade, explore, settle/colonize, or maybe even to do some raiding and pillaging. 2) Vikings did NOT wear horned helmets.
Deck 7:
Crow sculptures in the Wintergarden
Blue glass sculpture in the Wintergarden
Statue of Liberty screen in the Wintergarden Lanai
The bar name in the Explorers' Lounge
The Viking in a ship sculpture in the Explorers' Lounge
Antique spherical astrolabe in the Explorers' Lounge
World Café logo
After some wandering, we were back on Deck 1:
We were expecting this potted moss and shells to be much larger,
but found it on the Spa reception counter
We did not find the silver bowl until the next day,
in the hall between the Wintergarden and staterooms
The major event today was the Buffet Brunch at the pool!
We will start with the desserts!
Sushi bar
Antipasto bar
Pasta bar
Hors d'oeuvres
Breads
Seafood
And more!
Looking down on the buffet brunch, and
seeing that the pool roof/skylight is partially retracted
Looking across the retractable pool roof/skylight
Kent and the Baltic Sea
View from the stateroom
Sunset over the Baltic Sea (not sure why there is an
additional small round sun to the lower right of the big one!)
Next: Tallinn I.
