Granite Farms Estates OlympiActs (9/13/2019)

Friday, September 13, 2019
Never mind that Friday the 13th is considered unlucky! Today Granite Farms Estates hosted the Northeast Region OlympiActs: A Celebration of Senior Aging and Fitness!
There are five regions of Acts Life Care Communities, and the Northeast includes Granite Farms Estates and Lima Estates from Pennsylvania, The Evergreens from New Jersey, Heron Point from Maryland, and the three communities in Delaware: Cokesbury Village, Country House and Manor House. In addition, participants were invited from the four newest communities in Maryland, comprising the new Chesapeake region; Bayleigh Chase, Buckingham's Choice, Copper Ridge and Fairhaven.

Welcome to the OlympiActs, an event that began in 2006 in
Pennsylvania and has spread to all the Acts communities
We ran around to the different venues to try to catch all ten events. Granite Farms Estates was the red team.

Pool Biathlon at the pool
Each of two teammates must walk the length of the pool forward
and back twice, and after the third leg one must get two balls in the box
before continuing on the home stretch; a timed event
Jigsaw Puzzle in the Cart Room
They closed off the cart room to allow the puzzlers peace and quiet, so we could not spectate.
At the closing ceremonies, Granite Farms Estates medaled in four events: a gold in Wii Bowling, two silvers in Mini-Golf and Cup Pong, and a bronze in the Pool Biathlon. One of the Pool Biathlon participants, Ed, had to leave for a trip to DC, yet he received his medal via Facetime as his partner, Peg, held her iPhone as the presenter draped the medal over her wrist.
A few of the many residents who volunteered for this event;
here they are handing out "goodie bags" to visiting participants
