British Isles Explorer: Newhaven and Leith, Scotland (4/4/2022)

Monday, April 4, 2022 (continued)
The outer wall of Newhaven Harbour
The Fishmarket (18C Victorian) has been redevloped
into shops and restaurants
Once we were dropped off in Newhaven following the motorcoach tour of Edinburgh, we decided not to immediately return to the Viking Venus. We did not want to suffer through another round trip on the tender. We needed to walk!
Two tenders waiting to take passengers
back to the Viking Venus
Newhaven Harbour Lighthouse (1869) now has
color-changing LEDs for decorative purposes
The tide has gone out in Newhaven Harbour
The main road to Leith was under construction for
extension of the Edinburgh tram lines, so we
followed a detour below a wall of graffiti
Our best view of the Royal Yacht Britannia
(1953, in Clydesbank, Scotland), which
was decommissioned in 1997 and
is now a tourist attraction in Leith
We went grocery shopping at Asda,
a British supermarket chain that is more
like a WalMart (they even had rollbacks!)
The Krispy Kreme donuts are popular!
This is the aisle for Fizzy drinks and Squash (a non-alcoholic
beverage concentrate to which you add water for drinking)
We returned to the Viking Venus on a wild tender ride. This is where my eyeglasses broke, from constantly taking them off and putting them on, trying to clean off condensation.
A pilot boat accompanies the Viking Venus out to sea
Next: Inverness, Scotland.
