Josiah Henson Museum (7/7/2022)

Thursday, July 7, 2022 (continued)
Since the rain was holding off, we went to the Josiah Henson Museum & Park that opened in 2021. However, the museum is only open on weekends.
We did see the Riley-Bolten House (1800-1815)
with the attached kitchen (1850-1851)
For a long time the log cabin was said to belong to Josiah Henson, an enslaved person who escaped to Canada in 1830. He became a minister, abolitionist, and a conductor on the Underground Railroad.

In 1849, Josiah Henson wrote his autobiography,
The Life of Josiah Henson, Formerly a Slave,
Now an Inhabitant of Canada
,  which inspired
Harriet Beecher Stowe to write Uncle Tom's Cabin (1852)

We spent quite a bit of time in the Fallsgrove community
in Rockvlle, MD; with ColorPlay (2002, by Stephen Canneto)
