Seven Tubs Nature Area, PA (9/21/2020)

Monday, September 21, 2020 (continued)
After Sleepy Hollow, NY (formerly North Tarrytown, NY), we crossed the Governor Mario M Cuomo Bridge (2013-2017), and we thought Tappan Zee Bridge (1955-2017) was a long name!
Near Wilkes-Barre, PA, we stopped at the Seven Tubs Nature Area and tried to follow explicit directions to see waterfalls and glacial meltwater created potholes, called tubs. Our problem was that we did not realize that the geological features were on Wheelbarrow Run, and not Laurel Run!
Apparently the Lower Falls of Wheelbarrow Run,
like a waterslide with only a little water
Above the Lower Falls are the "tubs" on
Wheelbarrow Run (or are these the Lower Falls?!)
Per instructions, we headed upstream to find the Upper Falls, but we headed upstream along Laurel Run.
Laurel Run groove empties into a pool
Laurel Run channel above the pool
Hmm, it is so dry that it is safer to cross the rock than the bridge!
An especially narrow section of Laurel Run (KSS)
Pholiota squarrosa/Shaggy Scalycap mushrooms maybe (KSS)
Laurel Run alongside the trail under larch trees
that are losing their needles
Trekking across slanted rock
Fast moving channel in Laurel Run
Kent found a waterfall!
Surely this was not the Upper Falls
Wow! This bridge is in even worse condition!
You can still see the damage from a 2018 tornado
By now we had done about half of the two-mile loop trail and no waterfalls. We were headed back towards the start of the trail.
Another water crossing
Whoa! What's that?
Power lines passing overhead and train tracks up the hill
Rock layers in the middle of the woods (KSS)
When we reached the upper end of
Wheelbarrow Run, we found the Upper Falls,
barely seen through tree branches
Another tub on Wheelbarrow Run
Kent on the [l]edge!
More tubs
Channels and tubs
Okay, if you just want to see the seven tubs, walk from the parking lot to the bridge, then go right or left and backtrack along Wheelbarrow Run. Forget Laurel Run unless you want a nice two-mile hike!
We continued into Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Roadside America: Not titled just 'Giant Coffee Cup', but
Decrepit Giant Coffee Cup (2009)!
Next: Wilkes-Barre, PA South.
