Scenic cruising on an ocean cruise is not exactly like on a river cruise.
View from our stateroom |
We will introduce you to the Viking Venus and some of our routines.

Every stateroom has a veranda |

Every morning we had to follow health protocols:
First, provide a saliva sample for testing, then fill out a health survey on the TV (do you have any symptoms?) |
Third, have your temperature taken |
Fourth, wear your contact tracing device, and finally, wear a mask; Tamiko also has the QuietVox listening device on a lanyard |
Although there are other restaurants, we decided it was faster to dine at the World Café on Deck 7.
Tables are on the window side of both sides of the ship |
For breakfast the Bakery had fresh yeast donuts and very sticky pecan rolls |
The Bakery offerings were generally the same every day at breakfast, and you could order pancakes and waffles |
The dry cereal bar |
Hot buffet: several types of potatoes and French toast, grilled tomatoes, baked beans, mushrooms, and scrambled eggs |
Sausages, bacon, English bacon, hard boiled eggs, an egg of the day (such as crab scrambled eggs on muffin); there was also congee, fried rice, and Chinese dumplings |
Cold buffet: fresh fruits, yogurt |
Cold buffet: deli slices, prosciutto, two types of salmon, and several types of cheeses |
Beverage bar; however, the servers brought you your choice of coffee, tea, juices, and still or carbonated water |
Beyond the World Café is the Aquavit Bar, with outdoor seating on the Aquavit Terrace |
Also on the Aquavit Terrace is a hot tub and infinity pool |
Up one deck for outdoor lounges ... |
... and the tracks for the retractable roof over the swimming pool |
Up to the partial Deck 9 aka Sports Deck with two shuffleboard courts |
Nine-hole putting course |
More outdoor lounges |
Table tennis |
Kent tries out skittles |
Back on Deck 7 moving forward to the Pool Bar |
There is also a Pool Grill where I had a so-called Cheesesteak Sandwich |
Swimming pool with a hot tub at the end |
Lounge chairs on either side of the pool |
Lanai on either side of the Wintergarden |
Wintergarden where Afternoon Tea is held |
Mamsen's, an extension of the Explorers' Lounge, is another dining venue for late breakfast and snacks |
The Explorers' Lounge is two-stories in the front of the ship for great viewing (and entertainment) |

Each deck with staterooms has a launderette |
Stateroom corridor |
There are two sets of stairs, one forward and one aft, which are decorated with scenes from the Bayeux Tapestry |
The Atrium from Deck 3, with a continuous slide show |
Deck 3 display of traditional Norwegian clothing |
More tradtional clothing |
Piano, sometimes accompanied by violin, music interludes throughout the evening in the Atrium |
Public restroom stalls |
Public restroom amenities with automatic soap and hand sanitizer dispensers, and cotton hand towels |
The Restaurant for table service is on Deck 2 |
The wine cellar |
Deck 2 of the Atrium has game tables and the desk for booking future Viking cruises behind a model of the ship |
There is a small Viking Heritage museum |
Torshaven is the nightclub, but during the day there are lectures and trivia games; several men wore kilts |
The Jewelry Shop, where often there are talks on specific gems |
The Gift shop |
$175 swim shoes |
The Star Theater features a show every evening |
The theater is also used for Port Talks, lectures, and staging groups for the shore excursions |
Deck 1 has the specialty restaurants where reservations are required, but there is no additional charge; this is Manfredi's for Italian fare |
The Chef's Table has a fixed 3-4 course menu based on changing themes, where a different wine is paired with each course |
There is also the Kitchen Table that is like a cooking school.
The Living Room with desks for restaurant reservations, guest services, and shore excursion assistance |
The three-story Atrium |
The Atrium or Living Room Bar |
Library |
Ship sculpture in the library |
The computer area; WiFi is very spotty on all Viking cruises |
Dinnertime at the World Café:
Cold buffet on the port side: Sushi rolls |
Cold buffet on the port side: Sushi and sashimi |
Cold buffet on the starboard side: Shrimp, crab legs |
Cold buffet on the starboard side: Hors d'oeuvres and salads |
Hot buffet: Baked potatoes, rice, steamed vegetables, changing vegetable and potato options |
Hot buffet: A roast option, pasta option, soup, usually a souffle and a fish hor d'oeuvre |
Bakery: Breads, rolls, and bread sticks, ever changing bite-size dessert options |
Four cookie options, chocolate fountain for fruits |
Ice cream on the port side |
Pizza on the starboard side |
I would get one small plate and fill it up, including dessert! |
Next: Dublin, Ireland I.
