Thursday, October 27, 2022
We were too early for the Greenville Museum of Art, so we headed to the Pitt County Arboretum, in Greenville, NC.
Pitt County Arboretum general view, where a
quarter-mile trail circles the entire tree collection
Pistacia chinensis/Chinese Pistachio;
it appeared many of the tree specimens
were pruned before being planted
This Quercus texana/Nuttall Oak
(native) has hips
Sparse Trachelospermum jasminoides/
Confederate Jasmine; must not be invasive here
Hammamelis x intermedia/
Hybrid Witchhazel flowers
Looks like a fairy circle around the Osmanthus fragans/
Fragrant Tea Olive; they are fallen flower petals
Fragrant Tea Olive bloom
Betula nigra/River Birch bark
Camellia sasanqua/Sasanqua Camellia
Carya illinoinensis/Pecan tree bark
Looks like a woodpecker has been here on the pecan tree,
specifically the Sphyrapicus varius/Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
The tree is still producing pecans
Abelia x grandiflora/Glossy Abelia flowers
Acer griseum/Paperbark Maple
Paperbark Maple bark
Master Gardener display; besides the arboretum, there
were gardens featuring wildflowers, perennials, and herbs
That is one big rain barrel!
Anemone x hybrida 'Honorine Jobert'/Anemone
Symphyotrichum oblongfolium 'Fanny'/Aromatic Aster (native)
Hibiscus sabdariffa/Red Tea Hibiscus
Red Tea Hibiscus or Roselle seed pods
