Griffis Sculpture Park (6/2/2025)

Monday, June 2, 2025
Now we are heading from Buffalo to Maryland, and because it is a Monday, not many attractions are open. Griffis Sculpture Park in East Otto, NY is open year round, dawn to dusk. Established in 1966, it is one of America’s largest and oldest sculpture parks.
One section of Griffis Sculpture Park is located at
about 8852-8856 Rohr Hill Road, Ashford Hollow, NY
on both sides of the road (KSS)
Sculptor Larry Griffis, Jr studied in Rome
and noted the importance of physical
interaction with artworks in a natural setting
as his children played in sculptural ruins (KSS)
The sculptures are not titled (KSS)
Strange insect (KSS)
Griffis wanted to create a haven for
imagination and play
Most of the sculptures are made
from welded steel
Now at the 6902 Mill Valley Road location,
Tamiko sits on perhaps a dung beetle; climbing
on the sculptures is encouraged with care
This was marked the Green Trail Exit,
but is where we started
Sculptures are scattered in the woods and on the trail
You can decide what this sculpture represents (KSS)
Some sculptures are made from aluminum

The Bathers once were displayed in the pond, and
are now being restored with hopes of preparing the

the pond is surrounded by Griffis-created nudes ...
