Wassily Kandinsky and Alexej von Jawlensky, with their artist girlfriends, Gabriele Münter and Marianne von Werefkin, would vacation at Murnau and paint, using intense colors and bold black outlines. They would be joined by Paul Klee and Franz Marc in München/Munich to develop more abstract works.
