Because of timing, we had missed going to Königssee, a fjord-like 8 km/5- mile long lake in the shadow of Watzmann Mountain. We were to take a boat ride to the island Church of St Barthalomä, surrounded by a beer garden. Since we had seen much of Salzburg, I decided we should go back very early to Königssee, about a 30-minute drive.
It had started to rain in Salzburg, and it was a downpour at Königssee. We had a breakfast in the car of sesame rolls and dried sausage sticks! Checking the weather forecast, there was no hope of it clearing. We returned to the hotel to catch up on our sleep.
When the rain let up, we went out to see a few more things in Salzburg.
