According to what our guide told us in Egypt, Viking should not be calling this Nile cruise "Pharoahs & Pyramids." I cannot confirm that "pharoah" was just a name and not a title, but it does seem that "king" was the most common title given to Egyptian rulers.
The main question was: would we be safe with the conflict between the Israeli [government] and the Hamas right "next door" in Gaza? It turns out that we felt very safe. After several incidents in 1997 where tourists were targeted by terrorists, it has become commonplace for tourists to be accompanied by an armed member of the tourist police on buses, at tourist sites and around the cities. The tourist sites themselves, as well as important infrastructure including dams, are under armed guard. In Luxor, our caravan of motor coaches was escorted by the military and police. Egypt appears determined to keep their tourists safe.

Dinner was on our own, and we went to the mall adjoining the hotel to Shrimp Kingdom; our shrimp pockets were like Po'Boys |
Two girls sitting nearby had a salad, and two "flavors" of shrimp piled on beds of rice directly on a plastic tablecloth; they had plastic gloves to eat the meal with their hands |
Next: The Citadel.
