After the final Rra Dinare morning game drive, we arrived at the Santawani Airstrip to wait for our flight to Camp Kalahari at the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park.
Elephants cross the airstrip runway |
Our plane arrives, another Mack Air 12-seater |
When we land at Jack's Camp Airstrip, there is a waiting room tent (and restrooms!) |
It took us 45 minutes by safari vehicle to arrive at Camp Kalahari with tents as accommodation |
This time we had twin beds |
We would have our own flush toilet at every camp ... |
... but this time we have a bucket shower; the lidded can is to capture the cold water left in the bucket before hot water reaches us |
Roomy bathroom where we could do therapy ball exercises |
Most accommodations had bathrobes, slippers, and a security safe; and this one had yoga mats and weights! |
This is the second facility to provide us with personalized water bottles, which we did not have room to take with us |
Helea scaphiformis/Pie-dish Beetle along our path |
Thatch-covered camp living room |

Lunch was a salad with a slice of potato cake |
Colophospermum mopane/Mopane Tree |
The mopane tree is unique because of its bifurcated leaf (note the one on top left) and it is beloved by elephants |
Path to the swimming pool |
Camp Kalahari swimming pool |
Pool cabana |
Living room to the left and dining room behind the small "game room" to the right |
Tea time with snacks and fresh lemonade |
Pycnonotus nigricans/African Red-eyed Bulbul |
Charging station in the living room (although now there is charging in each tent) |
The restroom near the dining room: the rope pulled across means it is occupied |
