2023 Road Trip: Route 66: Missouri (5/28/2023)

After lunch, it was time to get back on Route 66.
Munger Moss Motel (1946) in Lebanon, MO
Munger Moss Motel had directional signs giving the
mileage to other Route 66 landmarks; many, many
motocyclists are traveling Route 66
Across the street from the functional Munger Moss Motel
is the abandoned Forest Manor Motel
Sweetwater BBQ in St Robert, MO
Billboards advertised this place for miles
Although it is located on Route 66, Uranus
Missouri Towne Center was developed in 2000,
also in St Robert, MO (a Roadside America attraction)
The line for fudge crowded through the whole General Store
A section of road now called Teardrop Road follows the
original alignment of Route 66 ...
... crossing the Devil's Elbow Bridge (1923) that has two
Parker Through Trusses and one Warren Pony Truss

Devil's Elbow Inn (1936) was originally a Munger Moss
Sandwich Shop, that was sold when Route 66 was
realigned in 1945, and the owners moved to Lebanon
to open the Munger Moss Motel
Hooker Cut (1941-1945) was the deepest highway
rock cut at the time, to straighten Route 66 and
make it four lanes wide
Fanning Outpost (c 1930 as the Speedway Garage)
in Fanning, MO
Kent stands by the world famous Rocking
Chair to show how big it is; Fanning Outpost
had the chair built in 2008 to attract customers
and it was the largest rocking chair in the world
until 2015 (a Roadside America attraction)
Fanning Outpost also sports a mural
Phillips 66 Gas Station (1932) in Cuba, MO

Wagon Wheel Motel (1938) with the original neon sign
and three stone lodging buildings that housed three
rooms each and formerly with a garage each
